GQEBERHA, SOUTH AFRICA

Love Story Foundation is continuing to make a significant impact in vulnerable communities across Gqeberha through its feeding programmes, community gardens, and support for Early Childhood Development Centres.

Founded in 2012, the organisation has become a trusted pillar of support for families facing food insecurity and social hardship. In recognition of its service to the community, Love Story Foundation was awarded the Herald Citizen of the Year Award in the Community Category in 2025.

The organisation’s impact has been large. Since 2020, Love Story Foundation has distributed more than 5.4 million meals. Through its support of 29 community kitchens and 22 Early Childhood Development Centres, the foundation helps provide approximately 42,000 meals each month. Since 2021, it has also distributed more than 384,000 sandwiches to those in need.

A major part of the foundation’s work is centred on community gardens, which provide fresh produce for the kitchens it supports while also equipping community members with practical skills to grow their own food. The initiative aims to strengthen long-term food security and encourage self-sustainability in local communities.

In addition to its feeding work, Love Story Foundation supports 22 Early Childhood Development Centres with food, educational materials, and essential classroom resources. This support helps create safe and nurturing spaces where children can learn and develop.

Speaking on the foundation’s mission, Love Story Foundation said its work is driven by a commitment to restoring dignity and bringing hope to vulnerable families and children.

The organisation is appealing to individuals, businesses, and potential partners to support its ongoing work through financial contributions. A once-off or monthly donation of R1,000, or any amount, helps sustain programmes that continue to serve thousands of people each month.

Love Story Foundation is also able to issue a Section 18A tax certificate and is a Level 1 B-BBEE contributor, making partnership opportunities accessible to both private donors and corporate stakeholders.

As economic pressure continues to affect many households, the work of organisations such as Love Story Foundation remains important in helping meet immediate needs while also building more sustainable support systems for the future.
